                                                                                                                                             ABOUT SAM HILL

Sam Hill became fascinated by solo fingerpicking guitar while in his teens. His main influence was, and remains, John Fahey., but he has listened to and learned from many other guitarists.

Hill has studied and/or dabbled in many other styles throughout his rather unorganized musical life. At various times he has been paid to play Classical music, electric Blues, Jazz, Circus music (perhaps not an actual separable idiom), Celtic tunes……He thinks all of this shows up in his playing.

In addition to solo guitar, Sam has a duo with the estimable flutist Laura Osborn, the “SAM HILL DUO“ (catchy, no?). They play Sam's arrangements of folk music from America and the British Isles, along with some original tunes by Sam.  They have recently completed their first CD, ”New/Old”; you can hear some of it on the audio player.

Sam also recorded 3 duets with the uniquely talented Susan Craig Winsberg for his CD "Beauty, Despair and Fun". You can hear 2 of these on the audio player. You can find out more about Susan and her music by going to www.craigrecords.com and/or www.blackwaterside.com
